Exterior Piping
Nearly all piping systems that require insulation indoors will also require insulation in exterior locations. It is a common practice to increase the thickness of an insulation system when exposed to outdoor conditions. It is also a common practice to provide more durable or abuse-resistant insulation products such as cellular glass, Polyisocyanurate, or polystyrene at exterior locations.
Insulation products that are exposed to weather require the application of external jacketing or lagging. Jacketing products are most commonly made of aluminum, but can also be provided as any type of sheet metal, PVC, cloth and mastic, or bituminous hybrid depending on the severity of the exposure. Exterior piping systems are also insulated to prevent damage from freezing conditions. In less moderate climates, exterior piping systems are often heat traced prior to the application of insulation. |
